The Helper City Police Department is always
looking for people who want to become involved, and help the children in
their community. If you want to make
that difference please contact us for further information.
The McGruff program has been in Helper City for almost ten years. As you drive down streets of Helper, you
may notice yellow McGruff signs displayed on the houses. This sign is intended to let children know
the house is a safe place to run to if they are in need of assistance.
Just recently, Chief Zamantakis presented McGruff education. This teaching was for Sally Mauro
Elementary students, and gave them the opportunity to learn about safety in a
hands on manner. There were several
different topics discussed along with McGruff videos on safety tips, dangers
of drugs, how to call police, and everything in between. The McGruff program also allows for
officers to go into the classroom and talk about several different safety
issues, along with the opportunity for McGruff to meet the children in a more
personal manner.
If you are interested in making your home a McGruff house please stop
at the Helper City Police Department and ask for an application. Upon completion of the application we
conduct a background check. Upon
passing the check you will be issued a sign to post in your home. This check ensures that the McGruff posters
don’t fall into the wrong hands.
Routine yearly follow-ups are conducted on all McGruff participants.
The Helper City Police Department is a participant in the McGruff
House Program. The McGruff program is
where certain houses in the community display the McGruff posters. The homes that display this poster have
committed themselves to provide a safe place for young people to run for help
if the need arises.
If you wish to be considered as a McGruff Safe House, please contact
our office at (435)472-3719. For more
information on the McGruff program, please visit the McGruff website at
