A Public Hearing and a Special Meeting was held on October 25, 2023
The Helper City Planning and Zoning Commission held a Public Hearing and a Special Meeting on October 25, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers at 19 South Main Helper Utah, to consider public comment regarding a proposed zone change to property at 233 S 200 E from R1-5,000 to R3-5,000 Parcel # 1A-1277-0003 located in SW4 NW4 of Section 19 Township 13 South Range 10 East.
The Helper Planning and Zoning Commission is a locally appointed administrative board serving staggered terms (2 year, 3 year or 4 years) charged with recommending to City Council the boundaries of the various original zoning districts and appropriate regulations to be enforced. They also entertain any proposed amendments regarding property matters, signage, lighting and so on. In addition, Planning and Zoning Commission works to keep itself informed as to the best practices generally in effect in the matter city planning and zoning. It may be qualified to act on measures affecting the present and future movement of traffic, the segregation of residential and business districts and the convenience and safety of persons and property in any way dependent on city planning and zoning. They work closely with the Regional City Planner from the Association of Local Governments.
Helper Planning and Zoning Commission Members
Jean Boyack, Chair. For many people in Carbon County, Jean Boyack is a familiar face! Affectionately known as the Mother of Helper, she has been a member of the Carbon County Community since her birth at the Standardville Hospital. Jean spent the majority of her life in Helper, growing up just north of Main Street in a time when Helper was a booming mining town and Helper Central Elementary School had sweet potato vines growing in the library. In 1973, she purchased a house in the Avenues where she and her husband Pace, raised two children Tom & Wendy. Active in her children’s lives she served in several positions in the local, regional and state PTA. She worked in the Carbon County Recorder’s Office as the deputy recorder for longer than you can count with both fingers and toes. During this time she supervised over eight counties in the 1980 census! She is an active member to the Democratic Party and in her retirement years has become active in both the Catholic Church and Community Boards. She is the head honcho for Saint Anthony’s Parish Funeral Dinner Committee. The Committee makes sure that the family of the deceased has a beautiful way to say goodbye by planning and coordinating dinner for mourners to attend after services. She has served as a member of the Carbon County Housing Authority, making sure everyone has a respectable place to live. Currently, she serves as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, making the most out of her knowledge, accumulated over the years, assisting Helper to thrive without losing its charm! EMAIL
Dixie Marvidikis. Dixie moved to Helper, UT eight years ago after being inspired by the rich history, nostalgia, and access to the great outdoors. She is a current building owner on Historic Helper Main Street and an active board member of the Helper City Planning and Zoning Commission. Prior to moving to Helper, Dixie’s background had mostly been in education. She worked for Eton Technical Institute in Bremerton WA, and Computer Technical Institute, in San Diego, CA. Before moving from San Diego, CA. she decided to try her hand in the mortgage industry and then further her education in the real estate industry. She attended PCC, Rock Creek Campus in Portland. She has been inspired by the community and potential of the lovely town of Helper and decided this would be a lovely place to raise a family and make a difference. EMAIL
